Hotels
There are many downtown hotel options in Halifax. We've listed a few below, along with the Dalhousie Residence options.
Dal Residences:
A single room in Risley Hall or Howe Hall (shared washroom facilities) is $49.94 / night. A 2 bedroom suite (with private washroom) in LeMarchant Place is $120 / night. There are also 3- and 4-bedroom suites available.
The Lord Nelson: Rooms from $189 / night in the peak season, though if you book, tell them you're going to a conference in the Mathematics & Statistics Department at
Dalhousie University and the should give you a better rate. A 10-15 minute walk to Dal.
The Four Points by Sheraton: Room from $150 / night in the peak season. A 25-30 minute walk to Dal.

Travel
From the Halifax airport, you can take a taxi to downtown Halifax for $63 (one-way) or take the Shuttle, which is $22 one-way, $40 return.
Dining
Each day of the workshop, lunch will be provided along with coffee and snacks mid-morning. There are a large number of places to eat in downtown Halifax that will suit any budget. In particular, there are a lot of restaurants along Spring Garden Road and Argyle Street. Here are a few options:
The Henry House: located at 1222 Barrington Street. This restaurant features a British-style pub in the basement (even serving cornish pasties) with good beers on tap.
The upstairs features a more formal dining area and larger menu.
The Wooden Monkey located at 1707 Grafton Street (downtown). This restaurant focusses on local organic food. Entrees run $25-$30 and sandwiches / burgers run $14-18.
The Fireside located at the corner of Birmington Street and Artillery Place. This popular restaurant is known for its cocktails and ambiance and recently moved to its new location.
Entrees run $14-$18 and sandwiches / burgers run $13-$16.
Things to do in Halifax
Citadel Hill: fortified in 1749, this star-shaped hill fort is a National Historic Site (location in downtown Halifax)
Maritime Museum of the Atlantic: this museum boasts a number of special exhibits, along with permanent exhibits on The Titanic and the Halifax Explosion. You can also board the CSS Acadia,
which is docked behind the museum (located on the Halifax Waterfront, 1675 Lower Water Street)
Peggy's Cove: Peggy's Cove is famous for the Peggy's Point Lighthouse and a popular tourist destination (located 43 km from downtown Halifax).
Halifax Public Gardens: The gardens are located in downtown Halifax and are free to visit (main entrance is on the corner of South Park Street and Spring Garden Road).
Point Pleasant Park: This large partially forested municipal park is great for a walking and running (It is located at 5718 Point Pleasant Drive; about 20-25 minute walk from the Public Gardens)
